Project Evo X is getting a new clutch in preparation for some big power. With nearly 30,000 miles on the stock clutch it showed no sign of slipping with 350whp on tap. It will be interesting to see what kind of condition the stock clutch will be in when it comes off the car.

I chose to go with the Exedy HD Twin Disc Clutch for the Evolution X beause of its stock pedal feel and massive torque holding power. This Twin Clutch is capable of holding 535 lb/ft torque!

Install is scheduled for March 20th so i should have some time to break this thing in before it gets abused on the dyno. Expect a full review and lots of install pics!

I took my project evo x out to the autox yesterday, the National Council of Corvette Clubs holds very nice autox in St Augustine, FL. The track layout was awesome; I was told that they changed it from last year because of people complaining, so they fixed it. I started using launch control once I got used to the track and disabled my traction control all the way off and was able to shave off 6 seconds with my last run being the best. In open class I took home the trophy with the field of competitors being a BMW 335i, and Nismo 350z. The Nismo was running consistent 1 minute times while the 335i started to gain on me later on the day breaking into the 57 second times. I was able to pilot the evo x into the low 56 second range and on the last run I blew em all away at with a 55 second run.

I was able to get to the top of 3rd on the straights about 80ish mph using launch control before the hard break and shift down into 2nd where i wouldnt have to shift again for the rest of the run.

The Nito Invo’s held up really well, they were never unpredictable but took awile to get to temp. I expected this because these are not really an autox tire.

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe when equipped with a manual boost controler ( MBC ) has been showing some really nice gains in power & torque in the midrange. AMS reports about 45hp!

Here is a dyno plot from AMS comparing the stock oem boost control vs a MBC.

The buzz also is that the Mitsubishi Lancer Raliart and Hyundai Genesis Coupe have essentially the same engine.

Blue is the Genesis
Red is the Raliart

The problem now is tuning, currently ecuflash does not support the genesis ecu. Hyundai uses a Siemens ECU for the 2.0T and is not readable by ecuflash. Someone needs to come up with a tuning solution for this car!
